With the sun shining brightly and a balmy 23 degree evening stretching out in front of me, all I wanted was a cool drink and a view of the water. Luckily this is easy to find in Auckland – the City of Sails is surrounded by water and beautiful vistas.
Westhaven Marina is the largest marina in the southern hemisphere and is home to over 2000 boats so there’s definitely lots to see. It’s a great place to take a stroll, ride a bike or just pull up an outside table at Swashbucklers and have a seafood feast.
The water is a beautiful azure blue colour and if you’re lucky you can sometimes catch a glimpse of the Auckland dragon boat team rowing past.
This little guy seemed to be enjoying the view too.
After a stroll along the marina and a drink at Swashbucklers, we headed home and BBQ’d some prawns. With a homemade satay dip, it was a nice end to a lovely weekday evening.
