I always have a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit when it’s so hot outside so to start feeling a little more festive I gathered a group of friends and we headed to Ponsonby.
The entire length of Franklin Road (apart from the odd Scrooge exceptions!) makes a real effort with their Christmas light displays and it’s an Auckland tradition to wander up and down the street taking in all the displays.
The lights are on every night from now until Christmas Eve but it is best to wait until 9pm or later when it is completely dark.
There are displays celebrating everything Kiwi……..
Other’s preferred to copy their neighbours (in a way, anyway!)
Even better, if you start at the top of Franklin Road you are in close proximity to Ben and Jerry’s so it’s too easy to grab a double scoop of phish food and chocolate chip cookie dough in a chocolate dipped cone (or is that just me?) and wander past all of the displays with your cone in hand.
We were even treated to a choir singing us Christmas carols.
All to the backdrop of the Auckland Skytower
Some houses kept it simple but very effective.
These little guys looked like they were having a great time.
With all of the quality eateries dotted along Ponsonby Road it makes sense to make a night of it and get some dinner before getting truly in the Christmas spirit.
